The man behind the models
I’ve been plane-crazy from a young age – I have my father to thank for that. Growing up in the 1970’s, and living out in the sticks, our house was surrounded by seemingly endless fields and marshland – ideal for making castles from straw bales and model flying.
The first really successful flight I can remember was with an A1 towline glider called ‘Satellite’, built from a kit produced by St Leonards Models. Us kids were in awe as Satellite popped off the towline and gracefully flew off into the distance, never to be seen again. A year or so later, I built my first model unsupervised – a little Veron Tru-Flite Comper Swift – and it flew! Many of the Keil Kraft and Veron small flying scale series models followed, each build further developing my aeromodelling skills.
Over the years since, I’ve dabbled in all kinds of modelling, from boats to buildings, but my main passion is free flight scale model aircraft – built for fun or competition.
I’m quite a prolific builder as I always like to have at least one new model each season, which has led to countless successful competition flights with a vast variety of subjects.
I’m a graphic designer by trade, and love drawing my own plans. When I’ve built and successfully flown a design, the drawings are then carefully worked up for public release, consequently all of my designs are proven flyers. I get bored if I spend too long building a new model, so although accurate in outline, I design my structures to be as simple and light as possible without too many challenging building techniques.
I live in the market town of North Walsham, nestled in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside, with my wife, Paula and our two kids, Maisie and Jim who have recently flown the nest.
I hope you find something you like here, but please drop by from time to time as I’m always designing new stuff!
